First and foremost, I want thank everyone who attended the Bombers Basketball / Liberty Feeder Program player evaluations this week. It was great to see so many excited young basketball players enjoying time on the basketball court.
So what happens next?
I will need this week and likely part of next week to review the evaluations prepared by our various coaches. I will also be reviewing the video captured of the sessions to incorporate any additional observations into the decision making process.
It is our intent to offer every player interested in playing basketball the opportunity to be on a team. That being said, we have two barriers to growing the program.
1. We are limited on the available practice gym space. We currently have 6 hours per week reserved at Wentzville South Middle School. (6pm – 9pm two nights per week.) *If you know of an area church or school that is willing to rent their gym, please let us know.
2. As we expand and offer multiple teams per grade level, it’s vital we’re able to identify wiling and able coaches to lead the team. (Up to this point, we’re in good shape with having enough coaches, but if you are interested in getting involved please let me know.)
How will teams be assigned?
In consultation with the respective coaches, we will be inviting players to participate on a specific team. Our objective in constructing the teams is to provide each player the best opportunity for continuing their skill development. The process for the older grade levels (6th – 8th) will be different than the one used for the younger kids in that we will place a heavier emphasis on matching current skill levels.
As we work through the evaluation process, I will keep everyone updated on the progress. I’m hoping to have everything completed by the middle of next week. Should that timeline prove to be unrealistic, I will let you know.
