New 3rd Grade Basketball League Featuring 9ft Basket

Simply put, the majority of 3rd grade basketball players need to be playing on a 9 foot basket.

As soon as you ask a 3rd grader to start shooting on a 10 foot basket, the form and technique learned over the past two seasons deteriorates. Coaches then are forced to spend the next several seasons (4th and 5th grade) fixing bad habits and poor shooting technique.

We don’t have to waste this season of skill development. We’re looking to host a league for 3rd grade boys that will feature a 9 foot basket height while enforcing all the rules of basketball. The league be run through the Renaud Center in O’Fallon, MO.

Not only do players begin to sacrifice their shooting form in an attempt to heave the ball to the basket, they also lose the ability to shoot with any range thereby eliminating any spacing on the court. By allowing the boys to comfortably shoot the ball from 10 and 15 feet, coaches are able to stretch the defense and teach players the fundamentals of cutting, moving without the ball, dribble penetration, attacking open spaces, etc.

The league will start October 25th and feature a 6-game regular season schedule. A single elimination tournament will follow the completion of the regular season. Teams will be responsible for uniforms and finding their own practice courts. Cost for entry will cover the games.
